Just as underground electric utility systems grow and continue to supply power to more and more customers, so grows the need for increased reliability. Sectionalizing points must be added to isolate the smallest section of a line, resulting in the smallest possible number of customers affected. Critical loads must also be protected from service interruptions.  Eaton’s Cooper Power Systems offers a wide range of products and solutions to meet an electric utility’s goals for reliability and power quality. All Eaton switchgear is rated at 15, 25 or 35KV operation at 200 or 600 amps.

Pad-mounted, above-ground models, as well as submersible, vault-type units, are available. Insulation choices are mineral oil, Envirotemp™ FR3™, E200 or SF6.

The MOST and RVAC switchgear use Electronic Systems Group (ELSG) or bayonet fuses for lateral protection and offer full-load transfer and switching options for ease of operation.

The Vacuum Fault Interrupter (VFI) and Vacpac™ offer programmable controls for greater flexibility in system protection and reliability schemes. Motor operators and communications packages are available for remote operation and SCADA systems. The units can be operated as single-phase or three-phase trip devices.

Pad-Mounted Source Transfer (PST) units are available to offer “blink free” source transfer to critical loads. These units come equipped with electronic controls and internal PTs to monitor the electric system and switch from one feeder to the other for continuous flow of power. The package is offered completely assembled and can operate as a stand-alone device or in conjunction with other protection equipment.

Pad-mounted reclosers, such as the PWE or PVWE, offer overhead recloser functionality in a pad mounted design. These overhead devices can be interchanged with key components, such as controls.

Eaton switchgear offers compact design and is rated for harsh outdoor conditions. The single control platform and the fully integrated packages offer easy installation and low-maintenance performance.
