GenerLink Transfer Switch Surge Protection vs. Non-Surge Protection
Not sure which transfer switch is right for your home? The primary difference between the Surge and Non-Surge models is the inclusion of built-in surge protection.
Surge Transfer Switch
A Surge Transfer Switch includes integrated surge protection to help safeguard your home's electrical system, appliances, and sensitive electronics from damaging voltage spikes caused by lightning, utility grid disturbances, or other electrical events. This protection is active whenever your home is connected to utility power, providing an added layer of protection even when your generator is not in use.
Non-Surge Transfer Switch
A Non-Surge Transfer Switch delivers the same safe, reliable connection between your portable generator and home's electrical system during a power outage but does not include built-in surge protection. This option is ideal if your home already has a whole-home surge protector installed or if you do not require additional surge protection.
GenerLink Transfer Switch Standard vs. Hybrid Transfer Switch
Not sure which GenerLink transfer switch is right for your home? The key difference is how the device is installed into your homes electrical service.
Standard Transfer Switch
The Standard Transfer Switch is designed for homeowners who have a utility that approves the device to be behind their electrical meter. This requires that your utility provider comes out and pulls the meter for your house to complete the installation. It provides a safe and reliable connection at the electric meter, allowing you to power selected circuits in your home during an outage without the need for extension cords or a manual panel changeover using a portable generator.
Hybrid Transfer Switch
The Hybrid Transfer Switch offers the same core functionality as the Standard model but is for utilities that do not approve devices behind the electrical meter. The Hybrid solution can be installed by a licensed electrician of the homeowner’s choice. It provides the same safe and reliable connection, allowing you to power selected circuits in your home during and outage without the need for extensions cords.
Please note: Installation of a GenerLink requires prior approval from your local utility company. We recommend confirming your approval status with your electric provider.
The GenerLink 40‑amp surge meter‑mounted transfer switch is designed to connect a portable generator directly to a home’s electrical panel through the electric meter socket. It installs behind the utility meter and delivers generator power to existing circuits without requiring a subpanel or internal rewiring. The device is UL‑listed as a meter‑mounted transfer switch and is intended for residential services rated at 200 amps or less.
This 40‑amp configuration includes integrated whole‑home surge protection and accepts generator input through a 14‑50 plug connection. Power is distributed through the main breaker panel up to the capacity of the connected generator, while the switch mechanically prevents back feeding into utility lines. Installation is performed by utility personnel or a licensed electrician, subject to local utility approval.
