Gresco Solar Projects Proving to Be “Sunny”

Written By: Mike Williams, Director, Solar & EV Solutions
2019 has been, in “solar” language, a little cloudy for Gresco. However, after several recent solar projects, Mr. Sunshine is shining down on us (is it obvious that I have a 2-year-old granddaughter?). As of recent, Gresco has been blessed to be awarded a 2.3 megawatt (MW) solar project with the Coweta-Fayette EMC subsidiary True Natural Gas and Radiance Solar, which will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
So, what does this mean exactly? This site will cover more than 10 acres with approximately 5,000 solar panels. The 2.3 MW solar field will produce 2.3 million watts (or 2,300 kW) of energy. To put this into perspective, according to 2018 data provided by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average annual electricity consumption for a US residential utility customer was 10,972 kWh, an average of about 914 kWh per month. Assuming my math is correct, this site could produce enough energy to power over 1,800 homes when producing at full capacity, i.e. when the sun is shining bright!
In addition, we will complete two 50 kW sites this year over in “Sweet Home” Alabama for the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, and we have almost finalized a 1 MW project that is set to begin in 2020 with Green Power and Radiance Solar for Jackson EMC.
Though our year started out overcast and cloudy, our solar forecast for the remainder of 2019 is proving to be a bright one! We are predicting this solar pattern to continue in 2020.
